The Rainforest Explorer workshop serves as a vibrant and exhilarating backdrop for Key Stage 2 year groups studying biomes, South America or life in the tropical rainforests.

Immersing themselves in a jungle setting, pupils spend the morning investigating issues such as the location of the world’s rainforests; the tropical climate and the water cycle; the different layers of the rainforest; the wondrous diversity of plant life; indigenous rainforest tribes; and wildlife adaptation.

The afternoon is then spent considering all aspects of deforestation, before wrapping up with a look at some of the clothing and equipment needed to conduct a modern day rainforest expedition, and an examination of some of the gruesome and grim dangers that await you if you venture into the jungle unprepared.

Some of the questions addressed during a Rainforest Explorer workshop include:

  • What will happen if the rainforests disappear?

  • Just how giant is a giant anaconda?

  • Why does the rainforest grow in layers?

  • Do some plants really eat meat?

  • How do rainforest tribes survive without the internet?

  • Why is it called a poison dart frog?

  • Bigger, faster, longer: The River Nile or The Amazon River?

  • What do I do if I get bitten by a snake?

  • Why do people keep chopping down the Amazon rainforest?

  • What exactly is a bullet ant?

  • How sharp does my machete need to be?

  • Do some things really glow in the dark?
